Find out what is a cataract

A cataract is the clouding of the natural lens inside the eye. The lens is normally clear and helps focus light onto the retina at the back of the eye so that we can see clearly. When a cataract develops, the lens becomes cloudy, causing blurred or dim vision.

Cataracts usually develop slowly over time and are most commonly related to ageing, although they can also occur due to injury, medical conditions, medication use, or be present from birth.
